6 Things My Gram Believed

This picture of my Gram was taken for her 90th birthday...it's one of my favs!  A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of celebrating the life of Gram at her memorial service.  She was 102 years old. She is now rejoicing with her Savior in heaven.    She is now free from the struggles of her failing earthly body and has been promoted to glory!  I can only imagine what she now
sees that I currently know by faith...incredible, unsurpassed --
joy!

During her journey from 1913 to 2015, she experienced World Wars, the great depression, travel by horses -- to travel by car -- to then travel by plane!  Gram saw a lot of changes.  However, when Gram believed something -- she believed it down to the tips of her toes...and there was no way on earth you could change her mind!

1. She believed in family...Every Friday night most (if not all) of my cousins, aunts, and uncles gathered at Gram's.  She would greet you at the door with a big smile and a hearty laugh you could hear down the block.  The neighbors knew Dorothy had company.  :-)

2. She believed in ice cream and pretzels...you can now disregard all the medical advice you have been given over the years (I speak with tongue firmly planted in my cheek).  Gram loved her "small" dish of ice cream each night -- and she lived to the young age of 102.  So if you don't want to live so long, stop eating ice cream (LOL).

3. She believed in high heels...my family lived across the street from Gram.  My parents bought their house on the same street on which my mother grew up -- right before I was born.  I would mow their lawn and cut their hedges each week.  I can remember looking out the window one day to see if I should cut the lawn and there was Gram coming down the front stairs.  She was wearing her 4 or 5 inch heels, rolled knee high nylons, and "200%" polyester shorts...to do the weeding in the front garden beds!  Gram loved to get dressed up.  :-)

4. She believed in yarn...my father's mother taught Gram how to crochet, and after that there was no stopping her!  She made baby blankets (for all 42 great-grandchildren & 2 great, great-grandchildren), bed spreads (for her 5 children and 18 married grand-children...and even various friends), and blankets for the back of the couch (countless people received these beautiful creations!).  The yarn companies will now have to begin the layoffs.

5. She believed in air trombone...at any given moment, Gram was known to begin playing an imaginary trombone --- and she required those seated closest to her to join in, on the "air band."

6. She believed in God...more than all of these, Gram believed in God.  If there was one thing she would be sure to tell others, pray for others, and even plead with others -- it was for each person to accept the saving grace of Jesus Christ.  Gram is in heaven -- not because she believed there is a god.  No, Gram is in heaven today because she knew, agreed, and depended alone on this truth: Jesus died to take the judgment for her sin...in her place.  She believed she was a sinner (Romans 3:10, 23).  She believed she deserved judgment for her sin (Romans 6:23).  She also believed Jesus died on the cross to take judgment that she deserved (Romans 5:8; I Peter 2:24).  With these truths in mind, in 1926 Gram asked Jesus to forgive her of her sin and be her Savior for a home in heaven...and save her from eternal judgment in hell.  Jesus loves you as well and invites you to accept His saving grace today!
